Helena De Backer

Helena De Backer’s experience as an attorney-at-law is focused on commercial contracts and corporate matters such as M&A transactions and reorganization of businesses. She helps clients setting up projects and negotiating cross-border contracts, mostly related to ICT and new technologies, considering the legal and business aspects and preventing and resolving disputes.

25 years ago she discovered the power of mediation for the resolution of disputes and since then she has developped a practice as mediator in civil, labour and commercial disputes. for a wide range of clients in a wide range of fields and industries. Helena is a certified mediator with IMI, the Belgian Federal Mediation Commission, bMediation and various foreign mediation institutions. She is a Member of the IMI (International Mediation Institute), Independent Standards Commission and sits on the board of bMediation. Helena is a member and former chairman of the Mediation and Conflict Prevention Commission of the UIA and has a vast experience in mediation training, both in Belgium and abroad. She is a director of the Belgium - Luxemburg - Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

Helena enjoys travelling and is a passionate sailer. She loves reading biographies and history books.

Helena is perfectly bilingual Dutch-French and is fluent in English and Portugees .
